Since then, all my blogs are created only on WordPress CMS platform. Very happy about the decision but still feel i could have done it much earlier.
Right now, there are tons of guides you could find online, but I’m gonna make it very simple so that anyone with no knowledge on creating this stuff can do pretty well, without facing any issues.
What You Need to Start a Blog ?
For any blog or website, you need two primary things,
- Domain Name – www.yourname.com
- Web Hosting Account – a server space to host your name ( content )
What is Domain Name :
Okay, i would like to let you know things as we move forward, so
Domain Name is Just like you’ve a physical address that hosts you, Domain name is your online identity, an address to your home on the internet.
What is Web Hosting ?
Alright, Web Hosting is a server space on the internet which hosts your Domain Name with content like text/image/videos, just like how your home hosts you which has address (domain ).
Without having web hosting, you can’t host your website/domain name on the internet.
Choose a Best Domain Name for your Blog:
Remember this quote, “Your face is the index of your mind”
Here, “Your Domain is the index of your site” , so you got to be very careful in choosing a right domain name for your blog. Here i’ve given a list of things to note,
- Choose short names that people can easily remember
- Try to have a keyword on it eg: top10reviews.com
- Try to find a domain name with .Com extension as possible
- Don’t go for trademarked domains, you’ll end up loosing it.
Which is Right Place to get a Domain Name ?
There are many Domain name registrars, you can sign up for a new domain name of your wish for as low as $0.99 from Godaddy but you’ll end up paying additional cost for WhoIs privacy, and a high renewal cost. Some of the best domain name registering companies are,
- NameCheap.com – Best with Free WhoIs Privacy Protection for life
- Godaddy.com – High Renewal Fee + Additional Cost on WhoIs
- BigRock.in ( India ) – Best .com offers
Which is Best Hosting Company to Choose ?
Just like domain name registration companies, there are many web hosting companies out there but only a very few provides what it really promises, you should not go with a hosting company just because it offers cheapest pricing but it should also be providing reliable, efficient, affordable hosting services that you can truely trust on.
I’m going to list some of the best & most popular hosting companies that powers millions of blogs world wide, i’ve personally used & tested my wordpress blogs with real traffic.
These are my top 5 shared web hosting companies i would strongly recommend for anyone starting out in blogging or creating a wordpress site for small businesses.
So, you now know where to buy Domain name & Hosting services. Now let’s dive into the actual guide on how to sign up & set up in a step by step manner.
Here, we’ve two scenarios,
- Method 1: Everything under single roof – Buy Hosting + Domain ( Free ) on Bluehost, so set up is easy
- Method 2: Buy Domain Name on One site & Hosting on another site – Setting Up Both to work
I feel like everyone love to have choices instead of single option, so i don’t want to just focus only on users who like to get everything ( domain + hosting ) from single company just because the set up process is super simple.
I would also want to help users who like to get a domain name and hosting services separately from different best companies, so that they get only the best without compromising the quality of service.
First OFF, i would start with Method 1:
Method 1: Sign Up for Hosting + Get Free Domain From Same Site = Easy Set Up
In this guide however, i’m going to show you how to get a free domain name for your blog so its not only going to save you $10 but also a lot of time in setting things up.

Method 2: Get Domain & Hosting from Different Companies = Adventure but FUN!
As i said earlier, i prefer this method as it is very cost saving, but if you’re not comfortable with going through multiple sites back and forth to complete set up, then its okay & fine to go with Bluehost itself ( method 1 )
But if you’re ready to try doing it yourself, you’ll learning something more & its fun todo it 🙂
So you’ve made a decision?
Let’s start, without wasting any time further.
What We’re Going to do: Steps
- Register a Domain Name on NameCheap
- Sign up for Hosting on A2 Hosting
- Set up Hosting with Domain
- Install WordPress / Create Post ( Same as in Method 1: Step 2 )
1. Registering New Domain Name on NameCheap:
Why Name Cheap ?
I understand your question, when Godaddy can offer a domain name for as low as $0.999 for .Com, why should i choose NameCheap that offers a .Com domain for $8. Your question is valid, the answer is,
- Best Customer Support 24×7 ( Better than Godaddy )
- Offers Free forever WhoIs privacy protection, so that you can protect your Address/ Mobile/Email from Spammers.
- Better Renewal Cost over others
Why Not Godaddy,
- $0.99 for a domain is only when you choose two year plan
- Long waiting time to connect to Customer Care
- Privacy Protection is $99/year ( WTF )
- Higher Renewal Cost
So i’m not just writing this just to promote NameCheap, i’ve domain names with both Godaddy & NameCheap, my experience with NC is very good & is same as a lot of bloggers, businesses that you may ask.
Coming back to the guide,
i). Visit: NameCheap Here
ii). Search for your domain name in the search bar,
iii) . Click “Add to Cart” icon, as you can see the domain is available at a special price of $8.88/yr ( $10.98 normally ). You’ll also see Suggested Results with other domain extensions like .org, .net, and a lot of other new extensions at $0.88/year cost. Select which one you want to go for,
iv) . Next, you’ll see Domain tamilcloud9.com has been added to cart with total cost of $9.06, you also see Suggestions for hosting & SSL service from NameCheap, next click “View Cart”
v ). Click ” Confirm Order ” in this page, if you’ve any promo code, you can enter here. WhoIsGuard is free forever with NameCheap that is one of advantage why many choose NC over others.
vi) . You’ll need to create an Account with Namecheap to continue to payout page, or if you have an account already, just login.
vii) . Once you login, you’ll be on the page as shown below, Choose Payment mode, you may use Credit/Debit card, or PayPal to make payment.
viii) . Once payment is made, you’ll see “ Payment Confirmation page” with an option to download your invoice.
ix) . Immediately you’ll receive an email from NameCheap confirming the Domain Registration & as well as How to Access your Domain Management panel.
2. Signing Up for Web Hosting on A2 Hosting:
You’ve got a domain name, now lets register web hosting from A2 Hosting ( the fastest among shared hosting companies in this budget segment )
Why A2 Hosting ?
Though there are many cheap hosting companies that you may come across, like Hostgator, SiteGround out there on the internet, I recommend A2Hosting for its reliable service with fast servers, awesome tech support team.
I’ve also published A2 Hosting Review that you may go through it and know why i like their service over others.
When i heard A2 Hosting for the first time, i didn’t even care to consider it a hosting company in the industry. But When i faced issues with then current hosting provider, i had no option due to budget to go for A2 Hosting.
Since then i have had my site throttling my server full due to sudden peak in traffic, high usage of RAM, CPU, but never once had my server suspended in all these 4+ years. In fact the team had helped me to reduce the load by optimizing the server, so that i don’t loose traffic=earnings!
The best part is it offers any time Money Back Guarantee! You heard it right, if you don’t want to continue the service say after 6 months, you’re free to request ” Refund ” , they’ll happily provide you pro-rated refund for unused service.
Go, have a chat with A2 Hosting Tech Gurus before you sign up. You’ll get every doubt cleared.
Back to guide again,
i). Visit A2Hosting.com Here ,click ” GET STARTED“
ii). Choosing right Plan, If you’re going to have only one blog ? Start with LITE plan, in case if you also have an idea of starting another blog in other niches ? go with SWIFT Plan ( the most popular )
iii) . Next, you’ll be shown as below, since we already registered a domain name with NameCheap, here just go with,
select ” I will use my existing domain and update my nameservers ” option, enter your registered Domain Name, click ” Use ”
You may also select ” Use a subdomain from A2 Hosting ” , choice is yours.

Which is Best: Annual or Triennial plan ?
- Choosing 36 months ( 3yr ) plan costs you $140, while
- Choosing 12 months plan costs you $52
If you’re tightly on budget, go for 12 months plan, but remember you would need to pay higher renewal. But when you go for 3year plan, it costs you $7.99/month ( excluding 50% discount )
v) . Scroll down a bit, you’ll have other options that you may leave as it is, don’t pick any extras as it will costs you extra,
Don’t forgo to choose your preferred Server Location, unlike other hosting companies which don’t let you choose server locations because many really don’t have multiple locations, A2Hosting has 4 server locations,
- USA ( Arizona )
- USA ( Michigan )

If your web audience is going to be Indians, you would choose “Singapore” server, for Global audience leave the option as it is to USA. Click ” Continue “

- CC Avenue ( For Indian users – You may use ATM card, netbanking, IMPS, Prepaid )
- Paypal – International payment for users from any country
- Check or MO
- Bank Wire Transfer
The good thing about A2 Hosting is that the availability of various payment processors so that the user don’t get disappointed with not having a credit card or debit card, especially for users from developing countries like India, African nations.
Just enter your payment details, click ” Complete Order ”
You’ll be redirected to ” Payment Successfull “ page with your invoice and option to login to your A2hosting account panel.
