In this post, we’re going to look at how to register a new domain name online. There are a lot of domain registering websites out there, but very few offer quality service at affordable cost that don’t bite your wallet.
Before going into the steps, if in case you’re a newbie or someone who would like to know what is meant by Domain Name.
Domain Name is an address to your website/business just like how each and everyone of us have a name for ourself so others find it easy to call us by the name, likewise every website on the web has its own IP number which is very hard to remember that’s why domain name system has been introduced.
Whenever you open a website say Google.com, a request is made to access that IP’s content stored on the web.
So now you know what a domain name is.
Can we just go and sign up any random name ? No. Don’t do that ever.
First make sure you’ve done enough research on what name you want to register. Do proper keyword research and finalise a name if it’s going to contain keyword on it or going to be just a brand name only.
If you’re a photographer and have a brand name, you may look for “brand+photography.com ”
Why only .Com ?
No there are wide range of extensions available, but the only reason why .com is preferred is its easy to remember.
But don’t worry about it.
There are numerous gTLD’s available like location based domains like,
brandname.in – for India, brandname.com.au – for australia, brandname.co.uk – for UK
If you’re targeting only local audience ?
Go for geo-location based domain names.
If you’re looking for service based domains ?
Go for brand.services, brand.photography, brand.online, brand.store, brand.news
There are a lot of domain extensions like these availability differs with registrars though.
Which is best domain name registrar ?
I would rank it as follows,
While every web hosting companies does have option to register domain with themselves, i would recommend not doing it.
Suppose if you register web hosting and domain name with bluehost, but as you grow your business successfully, traffic grows and you want to move to another best hosting company like A2 hosting as they provide better service.
Now, you can move your website in under few hours, but moving domain registration is hectic.
So, what i usually do is, if i want to register a domain name, say SparkTrix.com, i would go to NameCheap.com or Bigrock,
Create New Blog on my A2 Hosting, direct Nameserver to its DNS names.
And that’s it.
